Tattoo Regret? Get it Removed!
Are you one of the 7 million Americans who have one or more tattoos, but wish they didn’t?
Tattoos offer a platform for self-expression, or a canvas to commemorate an event or a loved one. Just as our interests change, so do our preference for tattoos. Over 25% of people with tattoos regret either getting a tattoo, or wish they could replace it with something else. Forget tattoo regret, get it removed!
How are tattoos removed?
A lot has changed in the technology of tattoo removal in the last 10 years. Newer lasers, like the Alex TriVantage by Candela, target all tattoo colors and types, are able to remove tattoos in fewer treatments, all while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.
The way a tattoo will respond to laser treatment depends heavily on the colors that are in that tattoo. Black tattoos are generally the easiest to remove, while green tattoos tend to be the most difficult. The Alex TriVantage is renowned for its superior ability to treat greens, blues, and black. By extending its pulse width, Alex TriVantage optimizes the delivery of laser energy to the target chromophore while minimizing disruption of the skin.
What are the treatments like?
Some patients say they feel a slight sting, like the snap of a rubber band on the skin, followed by a slight sunburn. To ease in the comfort of your tattoo removal we can use the Zimmer Cooler, which is a skin cooling system that provides anesthetic relief during laser procedures. We are also happy to prescribe a topical numbing medication you can apply 30 to 45 minutes prior to the procedure.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments required for maximum improvement depends on the size, location, depth and color of your tattoo. Treatments should be spaced 4 weeks apart to allow your body to remove the maximum amount of tattoo pigment and for the skin to heal. Due to the huge range of tattoo inks and lack of ink standardization or regulation, it is extremely difficult to estimate the number of treatments required to remove a given tattoo. You may require as few as 5 treatments, or upwards of 20 treatments depending on the size, location, depth and color of your tattoo. For this reason, we price tattoo removal at $150 per treatment (up to 10 minutes of laser time – see our special introductory pricing info below). Most tattoos can be treated in this time. You pay for the service at the time of the procedure and return for additional treatment as needed.
Are there any side effects?
After your tattoo removal treatment, your skin may have a white discoloration, and the area around the tattoo may be reddish and could have some swelling. This is normal and will disappear slowly over time. Maximum treatment results take about 5 – 6 weeks. It is also possible to notice hypopigmentation, or a whitening of the skin, in the treatment area.
I just got a tattoo last week, can I get it removed today?
Tattoo regret can happen at any time. Because your skin needs time to heal, we recommend waiting 6 weeks after getting a tattoo to begin the removal process.
